These critical areas, teeming with permit, bonefish, and tarpon, fuel a vibrant economy, contributing an astounding US $120 million to Belize’s economy and local communities. However, the flats and its inhabitants face pressing threats: unsustainable fishing practices, environmental degradation, and the urgent need for stronger conservation measures.

Together with Copal Tree Lodge we are embarking on a fundraising initiative to fuel a nationwide educational campaign reaching thousands of students and educators, with support from El Pescador Lodge and Villas, Blue Bonefish Lodge, Belize River Lodge, and Garbutt’s Fishing Lodge. This effort is crucial for nurturing a culture of stewardship and informed decision-making that can safeguard Belize’s marine resources.
