KEY WEST, Florida Keys — Greg Vincent of Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas, caught and released two permit, measuring a total of 56.75 inches, to win the 2013 Del Brown Permit Tournament that ended July 17.

The tournament honors the late angling legend Brown, who caught more than 500 permit during his lifetime. Vincent earned the title of grand champion angler fishing with Captain Justin Rea of Sugarloaf Key, Fla. Rea was named the tournament’s grand champion guide. Vincent also released the tournament’s largest permit and won the award for the most bonefish releases with four.
Ivar Bolander of Santa Rosa, Calif., was named the 2013 first runner-up. He caught and released a permit measuring 16.5 inches while fishing with Captain Steve Friedman of Islamorada, Fla. Jim Knowles of Round Hill, Va., was first runner-up for bonefish releases. Guided by Captain Peter Heydon of Key West, he tied Vincent’s tally with four but placed second based on the time of the final release.
Anglers on 12 boats fished the tournament named for Brown, who died in 2003. Event proceeds benefit the Jon Ain Memorial Fund at the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust. An avid permit angler, Jon Ain died in late November 2012.
