IN SOUTH FLORIDA, A POLLUTED BUBBLE ABOUT TO BURST

The New York Times has brought national attention to the growing problems around Lake Okeechobee. Huge amounts of rainfall left the polluted lake waters at their max, leaving the Army Corps of Engineers with few good choices of what to do. They ended up releasing billions of gallons of polluted water into estuaries around Lake Okeechobee, into the St. Lucie River estuary to the east and the Caloosahatchee River to the west, which is creating devastating consequences for nearby residents and the delicate ecosystems contained there. Now Governor Scott has to figure out how he’s going to address these massive problems.
