Belcampo Belize is announcing a very special opportunity to team up with Frontiers Travel, Bonefish and Tarpon Trust, and Belcampo Lodge to take part in the cutting edge of catch and release fisheries science.
Punta Gorda is one of the last untouched and under populated coastal regions of Belize. Limited to only 10 anglers, BTT and Frontiers will host a 6 night, 5 day tagging expedition. While as many standard spaghetti tags will be applied as possible, the largest goal is to tag up to 10 large permit with satellite tags. This will enable BTT to track the movements of these fish for an extended period of time anywhere they go. A study like this will provide the country of Belize the necessary information to begin to create conservation zones and rod limited fisheries. A chase boat with a BTT scientist will be standing by at all times during the fishing day. When a fish is hooked, the guide will call the chase boat to rendezvous for the implant of the satellite tag. Nightly prizes from industry sponsors will be awarded for fish successfully tagged and a grand prize for the most fish tagged during the trip will be awarded on the last evening.
This adventure will be team hosted by a Frontiers representative with years of saltwater experience hosting anglers as well as a Bonefish and Tarpon Trust scientist. Evenings will be spent in and around the Belcampo main lodge and bar discussing the science behind these tropic game fish and how to catch them.
The cost of the 6 night, 5 day trip is $2,740 per person based on sharing both a boat/guide and room. Upgrades for deluxe accommodations and private room and/or boat are available upon request. Included in this trip is round trip local air transportation between Belize City and Punta Gorda, 5 days guided fishing, 6 nights accommodations, all meals, daily wake up service with coffee delivery to the room, nightly turndown and daily housekeeping with laundry service. Not included are alcoholic beverages (although available), gratuities for guides and lodge staff and the cost of any additional activities.
