The New York Times just published a great piece about the importance of seagrass to marine ecosystems. Seagrass is often overlooked, but can be found on every continent except for Antarctica, and collectively covers an area the size of California. They place an incredibly important role in our oceans, providing shelter for many species, filtering pollutants, locking up carbon, and even fighting disease. And they are being lost at the alarming rate of one football field every 30 minutes.
