Florida Keys Bonefish Collection Trip: Volunteers Needed

The Bonefish Restoration Research Project is in full swing. Every week we learn more about the processes involved in bonefish spawning. As part of the next phase in the project, we need to collect more bonefish in the Florida Keys to add them to the tanks at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. More bonefish means more spawning. The collection crew is going to be in the Keys from June 28 through July 2. The overall area for collection is from Islamorada to Duck Key, but they’ll go as far as Big Pine Key if needed. They will be based out of the Keys Marine Lab on Long Key, which is where they will hold the fish before transporting them back to Harbor Branch. They are looking for volunteers interested in helping them collect mature bonefish. If you would like to be involved, please contact the project lead Chris Robinson by email or phone 772-321-2502. This effort is all about giving us the best tools to help the Keys bonefish population recover to its historically high level.
