The BTT Tarpon Tracking Program team has returned from a great trip to Apalachicola, Florida. Four tarpon were tagged in this area and we can’t wait to see how these fish move across the Gulf of Mexico and beyond. Further, in collaboration with local institutions and agencies, we launched additional acoustic receivers (listening devices) across Apalachicola Bay to maximize detection coverage of tarpon. This will greatly aid in our understanding of tarpon regional connectivity, movements, and spawning behaviors.
We thank all the local guides and anglers that supported the Tarpon Tracking Program in Apalachicola this past week and look forward to continuing to work with these great guides in the future. In particular, we’d like to thank Capt. Adam Hudson for aiding in organizing the tagging trip and to the great Captains and anglers that helped tag the fish, including one fish from Capt. Adam Hudson and Gene Wilson, two fish from Capt. David Mangum and Bill Sheely, and one fish from Capt. Frank Praznik and Peter Verchick!
