The Atlantic Menhaden Management Board of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission will vote tomorrow on a proposed reduction in catch limit for the Atlantic menhaden, an important food source for tarpon, striped bass, and other sportfish. Bonefish & Tarpon Trust and the American Saltwater Guides Association recently submitted a letter urging the ASMFC’s Atlantic Menhaden Management Board to adopt a precautionary Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for Atlantic menhaden that has no more than a 50% probability of exceeding the fishing mortality (F) target under the newly adopted Ecological Reference Points (ERPs) for 2021-2022.
