Abel X BTT: New Limited-Edition Reel and Nipper Sets Support Conservation

Saltwater fly reel in a fly box

Abel Reels is proud to announce the launch of its limited-edition Bonefish & Tarpon Trust Saltwater Reel and Nipper Sets, a collaboration dedicated to marine conservation and sustainable fisheries. The fundraising sets featuring exclusive hand-anodized finishes and artwork by renowned artists Derek DeYoung and Eric Estrada directly support Bonefish & Tarpon Trust’s (BTT) efforts to restore mangrove habitats in The Bahamas and to research and protect bonefish spawning sites in the Florida Keys.

This exclusive collection includes 100 individually numbered SDS 7/8 reels and 100 ROVE 7/9 reels, each paired with matching custom Abel fade nippers. A portion of every sale will contribute to a $50,000 fundraising goal, with $200 donated per set toward BTT’s vital research and habitat restoration projects in the Florida Keys and The Bahamas.

“This collaboration is a beautiful blend of product craftsmanship, conservation, and creativity, bringing together the exceptional talents of Derek DeYoung and Eric Estrada with the important work of Bonefish & Tarpon Trust,” said Jeff Patterson, Brand Manager of Abel Reels. “BTT does so much to protect and sustain our saltwater fisheries, and we’re excited to help support their outstanding efforts through these projects. Working with BTT and these incredible artists has been an honor, and we hope this is just the beginning.”

“We appreciate this extraordinary collaboration with Abel reels, which allows anglers to make a tangible impact in conserving the fisheries they love,” said Jim McDuffie, President and CEO of Bonefish & Tarpon Trust. “Your purchase will support research and conservation efforts critical to ensuring that future generations can experience the magic of flats fishing.”

Featured Limited-Edition Reels:

The Abel SDS 7/8 “Bahamas Fade” Reel featuring artwork by Derek DeYoung pays tribute to the pristine waters and mangrove ecosystems of The Bahamas, supporting BTT’s Bahamas Mangrove Restoration Project. These critical coastal habitats serve as nurseries for juvenile bonefish, while acting as a frontline defense against erosion and helping to mitigate the effects of climate change.

The Abel ROVE 7/9 “Flats Fade” Reel featuring artwork by Eric Estrada showcases the beauty of the bonefish flats, emphasizing the urgency of BTT’s Bonefish Spawning Research. This initiative is crucial for mapping and protecting key bonefish spawning areas to ensure the longevity of the species.

The reels will be available for a limited time on abelreels.com and through select dealers.
